The history of Vodia Networks goes back to the year 2005, when there was very limited choice for multi-tenant PBX products. The goal was to create a software that can run on standard servers and can be easily installed and maintained. At that time the PBX was sold under the brand name "pbxnsip Inc." which tried to combine the words "PBX" and "SIP". In 2010, snom technology acquired and integrated the pbxnsip product into its product portfolio and rebranded it as snom ONE. In order to focus on the VoIP handset business in 2012, the IP-PBX product line of snom technology was spun out into Vodia Networks. The name pbxnsip was dropped in favor of the name "Vodia" which is easier to pronounce.

The core product, the Vodia PBX was designed with hosted services in mind already from the pbxnsip days. The first version had multi-tenancy and voice encryption included. The software was written independently from operating system dependencies and today runs on various Windows, Linux, MacOS and BSD variants. Over the years, the PBX has accumulated a large number of features that cover requirements of hosted, on premise, call center and regular office requirements.
